Founded in 1985, Strainoptics, Inc. manufactures instruments for non-destructive inspection and measurement of stress in architectural, automotive and specialty glass. Our GASP® surface stress polarimeters and GES-100 edge stress meters are used to comply with ASTM C1048 and C1279 standards for both heat-strengthened and tempered glass to assure quality and enable optimal control of furnace parameters.

In addition to our portable instruments, we offer visual and PC-based systems for measuring residual stress in float glass and well as off-line and on-line systems for measuring edge stress in heat-treated glass. Our popular roll-wave gauges are used worldwide by glass fabricators for measuring optical distortion in flat glass.

Strainoptics customers include virtually every major glass manufacturer and fabricator in the United States and Europe. For a free CD featuring our products as well as a presentation on the fundamentals of using polarimeters to measure stress, contact us.
